The Story Behind Whiskey Barrel Rings – From Bourbon Barrel to “I Do”

Not every wedding ring starts in a jewelry store. Some begin their journey aging Tennessee whiskey in charred oak barrels.

Whiskey barrel rings are one-of-a-kind wedding bands handcrafted from reclaimed bourbon barrels. Every ring carries the character of the wood it came from—and the story of the person who wears it next.

What Are Whiskey Barrel Rings?

Whiskey barrel rings are wedding bands crafted from reclaimed American oak barrels that were once used to age bourbon. The oak wood, saturated with decades of whiskey, is stabilized and sealed, then set into a modern metal band—creating a ring that’s as rugged as it is refined.

Each ring is unique, with its own grain patterns and char marks, making it a literal one-of-one. It's not just a ring. It’s a legacy—crafted from wood with a rich past, made to celebrate your future.

The Symbolism of Bourbon Barrel Oak

Whiskey barrels aren’t just containers. They’re tools of time. Over the years, the oak absorbs the spirit’s essence, adding depth and flavor. That same aged oak—now transformed into a ring—embodies strength, patience, and tradition.

For many, whiskey barrel rings symbolize masculinity, heritage, and timelessness. They’re the perfect tribute for someone who appreciates craftsmanship, storytelling, and a great pour of bourbon.

“A ring that once aged bourbon now celebrates your next chapter.”

How We Craft a Whiskey Barrel Ring

At Thorum, our process starts with authentic whiskey barrels—yes, including Jack Daniel’s. We carefully cut and prepare the oak, stabilizing it with resin and sealing it with marine-grade epoxy for maximum durability.

Then, in our Nashville workshop, we craft each ring by hand—turning the metal, shaping the wood, and finishing every piece with precision. No mass production. No shortcuts. Just heritage, in your hands.

Fun fact: Thorum’s very first ring was made from reclaimed wood by founder Caleb Martin—as a gift for his wife. That same spirit still fuels everything we do.

Why Whiskey Barrel Rings Make Unique Wedding Bands

  • Each one is entirely unique – no two grains or barrel stories are alike.
  • They combine rugged wood with refined metal for a bold, balanced look.
  • They carry history – from distillery to workshop to your finger.
  • They’re sustainably made from reclaimed materials.

If you're a whiskey lover—or just appreciate authenticity—these rings are a natural fit. For many grooms, it’s not just a style choice. It’s a symbol of where you’ve been and where you're going.

Caring for Your Whiskey Barrel Ring

Even though the wood is sealed, it’s best to:

  • Avoid prolonged water exposure (swimming, showering)
  • Wipe it clean with a soft cloth after wear
  • Condition the wood every few months with a ring-safe wax
  • Wear your included free silicone band when doing anything rough
